One-Year MBA Frequently Asked Questions

No work experience is required for non-business degree holders

Why did SLU decide to revise the admission criteria?

Historically, we have always accepted students without work experience into the dual degree programs. Over the last few years, we have seen a growing interest from individuals early in their professional careers with little to no work experience.

What is the advantage of the One-Year MBA?

The intensive nature of the Saint Louis University One-Year MBA program encourages thinking across disciplines and learning by immersion so students graduate with a thorough understanding of the business world. Each cohort is comprised of students from diverse educational backgrounds and experiences. Additionally, the program can be completed in less than one calendar year; nearly half the time (and cost) of a traditional two-year full-time MBA program.

What distinguishes SLU’s program from other one-year programs?

Saint Louis University offers the only AACSB accredited One-Year MBA program in the region. Less than 5% of business schools worldwide receive the distinction of accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The accelerated (or one-year) format is well established and offered at schools such as Northwestern, SMU, and Emory, but these programs require work experience and pre-requisite coursework. SLU’s One-Year MBA is unique in the fact that no pre-requisite courses are required prior to entry. Seattle University and Xavier University also offer similar programs for students early in their professional careers.

What is the international component to the program?

Between the fall and spring semesters, students will study abroad in Hong Kong to gain valuable hands-on international business experience.

Who does this program attract?

The One-Year MBA is designed for high academic achievers who are interested in experiencing a program that combines academic rigor, experiential learning, professional development, and a team-centered environment in the Jesuit tradition.

When does the next class start?

Summer 2017

When does the application process begin?

Applications are currently being accepted. The deadline is May 28, 2017.

How much work experience is required?

Non-business majors may begin the One-Year MBA following completion of their undergraduate degree.

The One-Year MBA is a cohort program and there are no course waivers. Since business majors will have taken the foundation business classes as part of their undergraduate curriculum, they are first encouraged to gain some work experience before considering the Professional MBA program at Saint Louis University. GMAT scores are valid for five years so business majors may wish to consider taking the exam while still pursuing their undergraduate degree.

Will One-Year MBA students take classes with Professional MBA students?

One-Year MBA students will take all of their core classes together, but share elective courses with students from the Professional MBA program. This provides One-Year MBA students with the opportunity to build professional networks with Professional MBA students.
