Saint Louis University Center for Entrepreneurship Diamonds Accelerator Welcomes Spring Semester Cohort
On February 28 the Saint Louis University Blue Diamond Accelerator program welcomed two new students as part of the Spring semester cohort. During a meet and greet reception, Fred Pestello, Ph.D., president of Saint Louis University, welcomed the new students and paid homage to the legacy of pioneering and entrepreneurship that built Saint Louis University. Following his message, the new and current Blue Diamonds each shared a brief overview of their project or existing business.
The John Cook School of Business recently completed construction on a new data analytics lab with a naming gift commitment from Edward Jones. The room will feature 12 Bloomberg terminals, the ability for students to use laptop computers and can be configured for use as a flipped classroom where content is often delivered online outside of the classroom and in classroom time is utilized to expand on those concepts. Students taking finance courses will use the Bloomberg terminals as part of their coursework. Additionally, the lab will be a key component in the FIN 4630 Applied Portfolio Management course and the Master of Science in Applied Finance and Economics (MS-AFE) program.
Associate Professor Scott Duellman, Ph.D., has been named the Klausner Research Professor in Accounting
Scott joined the Cook School faculty in August 2010 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in July 2016.
Saint Louis University is ranked #22 in LendEDU’s Top Colleges for Aspiring Entrepreneurs Report. Of the 50 other university’s represented SLU is the only university ranked from Missouri.
SLU Receives Top 25 Ranking From Princeton Review and Entrepreneur Magazine for Entrepreneurship Graduate Programs
The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine have ranked Saint Louis University’s graduate business entrepreneurship programs 18th in the country, up from 23 last year. Out of more than 300 schools offering entrepreneurship studies that The Princeton Review surveyed, 35 institutions' undergraduate and/or graduate programs made the roster of top schools for 2017.
Hadi Alhorr, Ph.D., has been appointed as the director of the Boeing Institute of International Business and chair of the department of international business in the John Cook School of Business at Saint Louis University. A member of the faculty for over 10 years, he has excelled at teaching, research, and service. In addition to designing and delivering study abroad courses for undergraduate and graduate students, he leads international business classes at the undergraduate, graduate, executive, and doctoral levels. Topics include geopolitics, European business strategy, global business environments, and a global strategic management doctoral seminar.
The John Cook School of Business and the Show-Me Institute Welcome John Cochrane for Economic Policy Speaker Series
The Show-Me Institute, the Saint Louis University John Cook School of Business, and the Sinquefield Charitable Foundation are excited to present the 17th in the series of public lectures on policy issues. The event will take place on Thursday, October 6 at 5:30 p.m. with a reception in the Cook School atrium followed by a presentation from speaker John Cochrane in the A-B Auditorium.
John Cook School of Business Associate Professor Palash Bera, Ph.D., Receives Grant from Ghent University
John Cook School of Business associate professor in Operations and IT Management, Palash Bera, Ph.D., has received a $230,000 grant awarded by the Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO) through Ghent University, Belgium. Dr. Bera will serve as the co-supervisor on the project titled: Attention direction and task performance with domain model patterns. Over the next four years, Dr. Bera and his fellow researcher, Dr. Geert Poels will test different guidelines for effective use of patterns in domain models. Domain or conceptual models are developed as part of requirements analysis to document and communicate domain understanding during Information Systems development.

The John Cook School of Business welcomes guest speaker Ronald Kruszewski, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, Stifel Financial Corp. for the Dean’s Breakfast Series on Thursday, Sept. 8. The Dean’s Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. with a complimentary networking breakfast, and Mr. Kruszewski’s presentation will begin at 8 a.m. in the Cook School’s A-B Auditorium. Heather Bednarek, Ph.D., has been named the new associate dean of the John Cook School of Business. Bednarek assumed her new role beginning July 1. In addition to her role as associate dean, Dr. Bednarek is an associate professor in economics and previously served as the chair of the department of economics from 2011 to 2016. She has been a faculty member at Saint Louis University for 15 years.
