John Cook School of Business Announces New Associate Dean Heather Bednarek, Ph.D.
Heather Bednarek, Ph.D., has been named the new associate dean of the John Cook School of Business. Bednarek assumed her new role beginning July 1. In addition to her role as associate dean, Dr. Bednarek is an associate professor in economics and previously served as the chair of the department of economics from 2011 to 2016. She has been a faculty member at Saint Louis University for 15 years.
In this role, Dr. Bednarek will be responsible for overseeing undergraduate and graduate academic programs.
“Dr. Bednarek will bring tremendous experience and insight as associate dean,” said Mark Higgins, Ph.D., dean of the John Cook School of Business. “She is respected among her peers and has the skills to help advance our undergraduate and graduate programs.”
Prior to joining the economics department Dr. Bednarek served as a researcher at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality in Washington, D.C. Her primary research interests are in health economics and policy including the economics of cancer and its impact on employment, obesity, and financing of public health insurance. She earned a Ph.D. in economics from Michigan State University in 1999.
Mark Arnold, Ph.D., previously held the senior associate dean position, and is now the chair of the marketing department.
